![]() On the whole, I enjoyed his interpretation of the various characters. This review is really about the narrator, Michael Maloney. Also you will fully comprehend why m’lord Dominic is the Devil’s Cub. You will get a fuller understanding of some of the ‘incidental’ characters that are revisited in this novel. Seriously, read Devil's Cub, don't listen.Īlthough it is not absolutely necessary, as this novel stands supremely well on its own, I would recommend reading “These Old Shades” prior to this one. I'm going back to paper books for Georgette Heyer, I've lost all confidence in Audible for this author. I'm sorry if this upsets the actor voicing but If I could return it, I would. In fact only the reading of Rupert, a terrible old ham himself, is bang on the money. I find myself voicing much of the book out loud myself to set my head straight - the whole sense of many a situation is lost because the text is read with such misplaced emphasis. The intonation for other characters is really peculiar. ![]() ![]() Nevertheless, Leonie is voiced with a totally British accent despite being French, which makes the French exclamations and non-English sentence structure sound absolutely bizarre. Admittedly, I know these characters and the story so well, that I can anticipate what the next few words will be, so I'm a tough crowd. ![]() It's a terrific book but the narration is so grating, I'm struggling to listen. Really disappointing, despite being a favourite. ![]()
